Words

One year down and one to go. There are no words to describe it. Perhaps it is inexplicable. But the course of study I have just completed has shaken me to the core and I look forward to the results of this process.

Moving into the new studio at Otis.

I don’t know if any of us can ever really start over, or if any of us really want to, but I am starting a new adventure that in some ways really feels like I am starting over.  Today was my first day in the MFA program at Otis College of Art and Design.  So, big deal…school.  All I can think of is the lyric “we learned more from a three-minute record baby, than we ever learned in school”.  But it is not so much about hoping to be given the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge as it is finding a place where I feel understood.  I want to be part of a place that can help me edit all that I bring to the table, throw out the shit, elevate the good stuff and make room for more.  This is not just about artwork, but the art of living.

I think we all need this right now…expansion.  We are living in very contracted times and I don’t think any of us wants to feel smaller.  So, starting today,  I hope to expand…my mind, my work and my community and to experience more, work more and live more.

I have taken this “first day of the rest of my life” to edit this blog.  To really look at what is still relevant to me and hopefully to others.  To clean out my virtual closet and live with only what I need.
